August vs Planting a Seed

Every time August talked to Lily, she always told her different stories parallel to Lily's life, hints, to try to get Lily to tell her the truth about whats really happening in her life. I don't think that Lily caught on, but maybe she did and was just avoiding it. I think the way August gives hints to Lily is a metaphor to planting a seed. You plant the seed in the ground, and waters it to help it grow. Over time, it eventually grows until it can't grow anymore. This compares to August telling Lily the stories about the different people who have the same story as her. She keeps giving hints to try and get Lily to tell her, but doesn't push it. Eventually, I think Lily will tell August everything.
