Chapter 5 Quote: "Let's imagine for a moment that we are tiny enough to follow a bee into a hive. Usually the first thing we would have to get used to is the darkness..."
Every chapter, I try and find the connection between the quote and the plot. I think that this quote relates to Rosaleen and Lily's involvement with the Boatright's. It is obvious that there is great care and happiness there but if we look below the surface, it seems that there is a darkness as well. Some examples of this are May's depression and also April's death. But they are trying to look past the darkness and are familiar to it just the like the bees (the Boatright household). However, when someone new (Lily and Rosaleen) comes to interaction with the darkness than it is more obvious to them. I think that this darkness is what the quote is referring to. Does anyone else have any thoughts?
I think this quote is referring to Lily's darkness, it seems that she is having a hard time figuring out where she belongs and what she's trying to accomplish at he moment. I think that she's still grieving from the loss of her mother, even though it was ten years ago, and she won't find her way out of this "darkness" until she gets over her loss.
