lily lies to august

When lily lied to August and said that her father died in a tractor accident, do you guys thing she made the right decision to lie to people she doesn't really know yet? And do you guys think that if eventually August and the rest of the group finds out that she lied that it will harm in some way. Personally I do t think it will harm her if she becomes close with them, although August may tell her she would have rather herd the truth. What do you all think?

  1. I think that sometimes you have to lie in order to do what is best. I, too, agree that the lie will not harm August because, she already could sense that Lily was lying but the goodness in here heart let Lily to continue. She realized Lily's lie was intentionally for good and in no way meant to be used in a negative way.

  2. I see your point Drew, but I don't think there was any need for Lily to lie to August, even though Lily was doing what she thought was best for her and Rosaleen.August wasn't showing any apparent sign of turning away Lily and Rosaleen, so the lie was unneeded, it was also unneeded because August didn't even ask about Lily's father in the first place, Lily just sort of blurted the lie out.

  3. I understand what you're saying. I think that she felt the need to lie because of June and her aloofness/coldness toward her and Rosaleen. She felt that June might turn them away and she didn't want that to happen.

  4. I have the same opinion with Drew. Sometimes you have to lie to protect yourself and your close ones. We don't know what would have happened if Lily wouldn't lie and tell the truth.

  5. I think Lily makes the right decision to lie. She has to lie. As August argues with June, a white girl and a colored women have no where to go and no one want to want to take them in. I think Lily will tell them truth one day, because Lily knows lying is not a good thing.
