The Voices

Since the beginning of the novel "The Secret Life Of Bees" it has been clear that Lily has dis-liked T-Ray. It is also obvious that Lily has thought about running away before because of the pre-written note that she left for T-Ray, when she actually did decide to leave him. However, it was the voice on page 41 that says "Lily Melissa Owens, your jar is open" that seems to prompt her to run away. Lily describes the words to be "spoken so genuinely you see the words shining on the trees and clouds". She also hints that this was her first "true religious moment". My questions to you is, do you believe that the voice was the voice of some greater power or Lily imagining it to try and convince herself to leave?
