Who Actually Killed Lily's Mother?

So, I know that we did talk about this some in my class, but I feel like there's more to it. All that lily remembers of her mother's death is that her mother was cleaning a closet and that she had a gun in her hand, after that, nothing. But her father told her that she was packing up and leaving because she hated Lily, and that Lily accidentally shot her. She doesn't want to believe this and she talks about how T-Ray is always lying to her, but I feel like deep down she thinks her dad is right.

The way I see is that there's a few options:
  1. Her father is telling the truth about what happened and she really did kill her mom.
  2. Lily's mom came back to get luggage, but also to take Lily away from T-Ray and because of this her parents argued and then T-Ray shot her mom before putting the gun in Lily's hand to try and pin it on her
  3. Lily's mom came back to get what she needed and Lily, and then when T-Ray tried to stop them from leaving Lily somehow found a gun and tried to shoot her father but accidentally hit her mom. It seems unlikely that a four year old would do this though.
I personally think that T-Ray killed her mom like I said in the second option, just it seems unlikely that a four year old would shoot a gun at all, let alone kill someone with it.

  1. Thats a really great point Teagan. I agree with your idea of T-Ray killing Deborah for himself and not at all thinking about how it would affect Lily growing up. Maybe one of the reason's he has Rosaleen is because he felt bad (probably not) and wanted to somehow give Lily some type of woman companionship that Deborah couldn't do for obvious reasons. What do some of you other guys think?

  2. Teagan, although you make valid points, I don't think that there are only three options to Lily's mother's death. I think there are many different options to what happened to Lily's mother, Personally I beleive that Lily's mother dropped the gun on the ground then it went off and hit her. But this is just my opinion, I also think that T-Ray is hiding something from Lily and he's the only one who truly knows what happened to Deborah.

  3. Teagan, you make some very valid points. As we continue to read, I constantly am thinking the same thing. From the beginning I had many theories to this problem. Is it possible that her mother could still be alive? All though this may seem far fetched, I don't believe we should eliminate this idea completely. What if the gun went off, no one got hurt, and he mom just continued to pack up and leave. What if her father, really being a good guy, spared Lily the truth because it would hurt less. Although far fetched, I do not think we should eliminate this option.

    1. That's a good point about her father maybe not wanting to her based on how eagerly he picked up the phone when Lily called in chapter eight it could be possible(although he has a really weird way of showing it then). But I feel like he wouldn't have told Lily that she killed her mother if he was trying to help her, that seems like the cruelest way of keeping her from the truth.
