I'm not sure if we discussed this in class but I kept noticing when Lily tells August the truth, that August already knew most of it. She knew who Lily was the minute she saw her, and about T-Ray. Why didn't she just set Lily down and tell her everything she knew?
I believe it said this in the book. August did not want Lily to run off scared. Lily needed time to trust and love the sisters. Lily was known for lying, August could tell right away. Without being careful, August could have over whelmed Lily with the truth. Lily was not used to love or any sort of compassion. Lily was not used to trusting someone, as a result of T-Ray's lies. August played it smart when she told Lily that some time in the future they had to have a "talk." This allowed Lily time to figure out who she trusted, and it also allowed Lily to find her own time for when she was fully capable of the truth.
