Liar liar pants on fire!!!!!

There seems to be a reoccurring theme of lying in this book, as we talked about in A period today. There is one lie in particular that I am sort of hung up on, this is the lie that T-Ray told Lily. When T-Ray told Lily that her mother had left her and didn't care about her Lily was devastated, which was why she told herself it was T-Ray's form of a punishment. But was it a punishment? Could T-Ray have been telling the truth? I think it seems reasonable that he was telling the truth because in the beginning of the novel Lily states that the first and only memory she has of her mother was when her mother died. It doesn't make sense that Lily would only have one memory of her mother unless her mother wasn't in Lily's life often, so I think that Lily's mom really did leave Lily, as T-Ray stated in chapter Two page 39. This is just my theory though, what does everyone else think?

  1. I think that T-Ray was just trying to punish Lily. He wanted to do internal pain rather than physical, so he gave her the worst news saying that her mom never loved her. When Lily's mom came back to get her belongings, I think she also came back to get Lily. She obviously was leaving T-Ray because of what an awful and cruel person he was. Why would she leave her four year old daughter with him?
